We have a gorgeous 17 month old neutered blue roan cocker spaniel bitch. We have always had cockers but this one is the best yet! Fantastic personality and very very loving. We have just one problem with her - we cannot control her waist line! She weighs in at a massive 17.5kg!

We have tried the prescription only RD diet food from Science Plan - no change! We have tried James Wellbeloved light - no change! She has 1 small handful morning and 3 small handfuls in the evening so we are hardly overfeeding her! I have now also stopped all "treats" ie dentastix, milky bones etc. Must admit OH still gives her a bit of toast crust in the morning! She has a good 45 mins off lead exercise a day plus

I dont want to starve her but what else can we do!

Agreed about the ball. My dog is a ball nut, and it's the best thing for keeping her nice and lean.

I would also suggest using a measuring jug. By eyeballing the food, and not measuring, I often end up guessing the amount at 3/4 cup, when, in actual fact, Stella's feed should only be 1/2 cup.

Hi,

I had the same problem with my JRT. He was on Royal Canin dried food - & getting hardly any....he looked like a right little chub! He was getting at least 2hrs of hard exercise a day, plus playtime at home.

I took him to vet a couple of weeks ago & vet suggested his system was overloaded with carbs & to feed half/half with prescription dog meat (& weigh it out according to his bodyweight!). It has a higher protein level.

Fair enough, my little chap has not been well (tick fever) but already the weight is coming off him.

I know many people on here think canned dog meat is awful (myself included) but it is working for mine, so I will stick with it. Plus, the dog food brands/raw diet feeding is pretty limited in Hong Kong.

Is RC a high calorie diet? Dogs cant process cereal so that could be a factor.

45mins sounds a lot of walking but is not anywhere near as much of a work out as 20min playing tuggy, fetch, swimming etc.

As said before -measure and dont guess the weight.
