Ok - I am a BSJA virgin!

This is a 148cm pony JC

It says,

Total Winnings

2007 Home Actual 10
Home Notional 1

Abroad Actual 360
Abroad Notional 360

Total Home Actual 370
Home Notional 361

It would seem that the 360 Abroad is archived - what does that mean - would it have been Ireland?

Then further down it says,
B----- Equestrian Centre JI1.00M Pos 4 Actual 10 Notional 1 Total 361 Pts 0

So what is that in £'s or are these points?

When I look at an advert for a pony and it gives a monetry amount Actual and Notional what does that mean please.

I hope someone can make sense of this for me

I suspect the pony was imported and allocated that much money. He prob didnt win that much abroad though it is possible.

In this country he came 4th in a 1m class which earnt him £1 on his card (notional) although the amount of prize money he got on the day was £10 (actual)

Hi there

The BSJA assign winnings when a horse is imported (regardless of whether its ever jumped a course!!!)

So it is possible the 360 abroad isn't a real figure

The notional winnings are those assigned by the BSJA to each place in a class. The actual are what you physically get in an envelope.

One of mine only has £3 to his name, but has won £25. So I got £25 in my wallet, but he only earned £3 notional

The notional winnings are those that determine which classes you can enter - as in when you win over a certain amount you cannot enter the smaller classes.

The Bsja do assign winnings when a horse is imported but it is usually £500 unless you can prove that the horse has never jumped abroad

So it is possible that the £360 was actually won!

I beleive the pony came from Ireland so it's possible it was competed over there.

Also you say £500 for a horse - could it be less for a pony - if you know what I mean?

I suppose so! Not entirely sure as i have only imported horses. You could try contacting the BSJA they will be able to tell you

The Irish equivalent of the BSJA (SJAI) award points not £'s to the winnings card, so this would explain the points, though I don't know what the conversion rate is from SJAI points to BSJA prize monies.

That was a great link, thanks. I found her on there and she had 144 points and was Pony Grade B. So obviously when she came over to the UK they translated those 144 points to 360 pounds? or points?

I might ring BSJA to clarify.

The BSJA for Ponies takes the number of points x 2.5 to give it the equivalent in ££££s (for horses they x 9) Could you tell what height it has been jumping? She must be quite decent to have got that many points. Just check to see how long ago she jumped and if there are any obvious breaks in her record.

I've looked more on the Irish site and her list of competitions is very long. She was born 1995 and from 2000 to 2004 she was competing with 4 riders (2 families but same owner).

She seems to have a lot of double clears in 1st and 2nd rounds.

Not sure of height of class though as most of the classes are named 148CD or 148D or 148BC or 148ABC !

Earlier on there were some Newcomers but again can't find an indication of height.

Will have to do some more digging I think!

More links to help you http://sjai.ie/Ponies.htm I would ask what she was has been doing since 2004?

Thanks, couldn't get the link to open though - will try later.

As far as I've found out she must have come over from Ireland in 2004 or 2005. I've found one riding club result for her - 1st in a Senior Open (not BSJA) and 2nd in an exc 148 class!

Then the next thing I've found in Sep 07 4th in a 1m BSJA class.

I think if I take things further with this pony I will try to contact the owner previous to the one she has now - they've only had her a couple of months and have done nothing (and I mean nothing) with her.
