I really need some advise. (also in NL)

My TB cannot keep shoes on. At the moment we are losing one approximatly every 3 days and my farrier charges for putting shoes back on plus I cannot have anyomore time off work to wait for the farrier.
Farrier says its because our fields are really muddy and my ned likes to play with his friend, alot!

He is on balenced diet and never goes out without OR boots on.

What can I do???? They are going out in summer fields next week but they still come off. He gets sore feet without shoes on. He cannot stay in 24/7 (he is crazy enough already) and really dont want to have him in a solo field as he loves going out with him mate.

Can I use Old Mac boots for turnout with traditional shoes on? I really dont want to have to ride in them and they are really expensive!!

Any ideas are very welcome! Thanks

Try a different farrier. My old farrier wouldnt keep shoes on my TB for more than 10 days but with my new one they stay on for up to 6 weeks

Im currently using the 'yard' farrier, whom I personally dont rate.

But my farrier doesn't really want to do him until he can keep shoes on better as he lives miles away and was happy to do my old horse, 'cos he never lost a shoe in 12 years!

Swap farriers! I'm having trouble keeping shoes on my horses at the moment. One is an old TB with really crappy feet and the other is a warmblood with really good feet. Neither of them seem to be able to keep their shoes on. The warmblood has lost 3 shoes so far this time. I had to change farriers because I moved my horses to a different yard and was out of my original farrier's area. I have used the new one for about a year now and although my current farrier seems to make a good job on them they are forever losing shoes. I have now managed to convince the other farrier to come back next week as I never had any trouble with losing shoes when he was shoing them. I think my old TB with the crappy feet only lost about 1 shoe in 6 years!

Keep him barefoot and ride in Old Macs. Done this with 2 ex race TBs - they are tenderfooted to start but their feet soon harden up enough for turnout barefoot. If it's stoney on the way to the field (it is for me), just be patient and let him pick his way - it's a bit like us barefoot on a stoney beach, but although it's a bit ouchy it doesn't do any harm!

They have boots on front feet only when ridden. You wouldn't believe the change being barefoot has made to their feet - the increased blood supply means that the whole foot improves, together with the tendons and ligaments.

Old macs are expensive but you could consider using Shires Equiboots which are about £19.00 each. I have been using those recently as mine has thin soles although now we are trying pads. I do know and understand the nightmare of cr*p feet... we had that a couple of years ago, he was always loosing shoes. It was nothing to do with my farrier, who is brilliant. i put him on formula 4 feet which seemed to help and keratex hoof hardener. I now know why they say "no foot, no horse".

*sigh*
