Hi,
Could I please pick your brains?
I have 2 horses currently at grass livery in South Essex. Both geldings, one is a welsh d, 13 years old and effectively retired due to being very unreliable under saddle and sometimes difficult to handle due to his nervousness (is that a word?
). He can't be stabled, has to live out.
The other is my riding pony who damaged his tendon in the summer and now needs the winter off. He can stable but needs every day turn out or he gets very stiff but his turnout has to be quiet IYSWIM, minimal hooning
I really need to get away from where I am now, I was just going to move the pony and leave the Welsh where he is but after the 2nd broken leg in a week in his field and him being let out onto the road last week (as they took the dead horse out, they left the gates open and 20 horses got loose) . Nobody could catch him and it took me nearly an hour to get there from work to catch him. Due to new YO and the fact that nobody seems to be learning anything from these incidents, I just can't cope with that anymore.
Ok, I've been looking at retirement livery for the Welshie - does anyone know anything about Lydia Harvey's in Suffolk? Or I've heard there are places in Romford and Ingatestone but can't find details? PM if you prefer.
For the pony, does anyone know of grass/recuperation livery available in the Southend/Hockley/Rayleigh/Benfleet/Thundersley areas? Or a private yard that would consider a very easy going, quiet pony who needs a relaxed winter? Or a DIY yard who have gaurenteed everyday TO?
Apologies for the length of this post but if anyone can help I will be so grateful. After yesterday, when one minute I was on a high because the pony is starting to come sound and the vet was really happy with him and 10 minutes later, walking down the field with with the vet to shoot the poor boy who broke his leg......in a very avoidable accident. I really need to move ASAP.
