Rosie spangle is nearly 14, fairly fit and healthy on the whole. This morning she struggled to get out of her chair and wont put any weight on left hind leg, is holding the whole leg up. Took her to emergency vet who cannot find a break or obvious cause, suggested x rays which may not be conclusive (if its something other than a break). Other option, which we took, is fairly strong pain killers for a couple of days to see if there is any improvement, she thinks she may have slipped on the snow and is just sore. She is now sleeping peacefully, I have carried her outside twice where she has managed to squat for a wee and then hops back in to be lifted into her chair. Any ideas guys for anything else it could be. Im OK with dosing her up til Tuesday cos she seems more comfy but this is not a solution and Im loathe to subject her to lots of poking and prodding :(

Poor Rosie, can't offer any suggestions other than what the vet has said, i.e. maybe she has slipped. Hopefully the rest and painkillers will do the trick, if not I think I would opt for x rays and hope they show something. Vibes to Rosie.

When my mix tore his right hind cruciate a couple of years ago he wasn't really doing anything energetic and they couldn't tell 100% whether he had done it or not other than the way he was not using it/carrying it. X-rays/manipulation under sedation were also inconclusive. We opted to have the surgery for the torn cruciate (TPLO) and when the surgeon opened him up it was definitely torn. He's just done his left hind and it is a different story completely - even I can tell there's something wrong with it just by flexing it.

Hopefully Rosie has just pulled or knocked hers and will be as right as rain in a couple of days so vibes across the snowy pond for her.

Have to say cruciate sprung to my mind - one of mine had hers operated on in jan. In my opinion unless really ness I wouldn't want to go through op again, and esp as yours is 14. I would try and get her to rest lots as if has done any damage its the scar tissue that will help mend (pls correct me if I'm talking rubbish)!! Mine has cod liver oil 2 x a day and mobile bones supp from www.poochandmutt.com (same family that make Blue Chip Horse stuff). Hope she gets better soon.
