hi just trying to do an assiment and was wondering if any one would be able to help me by telling me how many bales they use to start a straw bed and a shaving bed?

thanks

Stating the obvious but it depends on the size of the stable.

Some stables are 10x12, some 16x12, the average would be 12x12. Make sure you use a standard size stable for comparison when you do your assignment

in my 14x12 boxes the bed covers 3/4 of the box.i use 6 or seven to start the bed and add 1 or 2 bales during the week.(a quarter bale at a time).abig fat bed stayes nicer for longer and imo a thin bed is a false ecomnomy.i use straw

I used 6 bales of shavings to start bed and use 2 bales a week which keep's it looking nice.
And when i use to be on straw i used 4 bales to start and 2 bales a week to keep it big.
Both beds cover 3/4 of my stable.Bigger the bed cleaner my mare is.

My stable is 12x12 and I use about 3/4 bales of shavings to start a bed and use one a week, I don't need as big a bed as I am on rubber matting. I also find that differnt shavings companies have differant amounts in the bales. E.g The shavings I use at the moment I get loads out of, they are really compressed to get as much in the bag as possible. Other shavings I find I need to put down 2 a week to keep the bed up because there aren't as many in them.

thanks for all your help it really really helped!! only wish i had not written 3000 words when my word count has to be 1500!! got to try and scale it down now!
