Hi there,

I rode my horse today, got off and when I went to run my stirrups up the actual tread on my flex on safe on stirrups came off!

I have no idea what happened it looks like underneath there are two screws that go up into the footplate. Somehow between getting off my horse and taking his saddle off both screws must have come out. It was fine when I got on, rode and got off as it’s quite obvious that the tread isn’t bolted down if that makes sense. I wonder if maybe one had come before, I didn’t notice and the other sheared off when I got off.

Has anyone had this problem before? It looks like you can’t buy those bolts- only the red screws that go in the side. They were nearly £300 so need to repair them somehow

You have paid how much for a pair of stirrups? That have come adrift?
Well, straight on to your retailers (and maybe the manufacturers, that is an outrageous price, should be 100% foolproof / gold plated), surely?
Did they significantly improve your performance? Expect to see you shortlisted for the national squad, at the very least!

They were about £285 from memory had them a few years so no going back to the retailer. They are the safety ones where the arm came off. I will send the manufacturer an email and see if the can be fixed.

They have really helped my riding actually I broke my ankle really bad years ago and ruptured my achilles- and my legs used to hurt after riding all the time. Since getting these no issues at all

Can you post a picture of the other stirrup so I can see what the original fixings were. It might just be a case of taking it to a good hardware shop (they do exist) and seeing what will fit.

Is this really necessary? Surely it’s not news to you that there’s premium products in the horse world and that some people buy them. Whether you’d spend that much is neither here nor there to the OP.

FWIW I’ve just spent even more than that on a pair of stirrups, and yes to me they are absolutely worth it given the difference they’ve made to my position and in turn my horse’s way of going in just a few rides. Even my skeptical trainer had to admit it was the best she’d seen me ride/seen my horse go.

@Spiderpig2009 I didn’t get on with the flex ons as I have tiny feet, but friends really rate them and have said the after care is also pretty good so it’s probably worth reaching out to them and seeing if they can send out replacement screws or repair them for you.

Quite, how very dare people make themselves more comfortable while enjoying their expensive hobby. I certainly wish I bought my sprengers several years before I did.

Yes I suspect you lost one a while ago and the other has also worked its way loose over time. I think they do have pretty decent customer service so I'd definitely message them.
Thanks I have sent a message on their contact page- it’s in French so goodness knows what the translation goes across as. It’s really weird- I guess I never look under my stirrups but they were fine when I got on and got off, but when I took the saddle of it just pinged off. We only walked and had a short canter so it’s really odd

they look like standard flat top allan key bolts so I reckon easy to replace if no joy from them, assuming threads still ok on the bases.

I must admit yes I did go the nationals and as part of a squad in my first year of BD, but not the Olympics - I don’t reckon they would want 45 year old newbies on their team 🤣. The nation doesn’t need me forgetting my test halfway through 😆

I’d suggest a bit of thread lock on any replacement bolts to stop them rattling loose again.
Thank you - one poster recommended loctite is thread lock different? It’s really odd the screws are solid in the other stirrup. The only thing I can think of is this is the left one so the one for mounting. These stirrups have an actual right and left if that makes sense

Loctite is a brand*, so any thread lock will do but be warned, they won't come out very easily, you would need heat to soften to try and remove.

* like Hoover is a brand name but we all have different ones.

Thanks - I have emailed where I bought them from but as it’s 3 years ago probably won’t get anything from that. Going to be a diy job I think so this is much appreciated

Thanks phi’s- just had a closer look thank you the Screwfix ones look identical! I think rather than tamper with other one I will take both to Screwfix and ask them - they are really nice at my local one
