Help please! Thorowgood Fish inserts, which way?

Thanks for reading this, very dumb question but I have just bought a secondhand T/G saddle with Fish inserts and I cannot find any info on which way to fit them..even on the Thorowgood website.

They have a rounded smooth side and a flat, sort of laddered side, there is an hole in one end which ?maybe? goes on the bottom so you can pull it out easily??

Yep, holes on the bottom so you can hook a hoof pick in it to pull it back out. Laddered side goes downwards, towards the horse.
