My 5 yr old Lurcher wants the loo in the middle of the night, Nothing has changed routine or food wise, he is taken out at 9pm ish for a poo! as he wont go in the garden but doesnt always have one and it hasnt ever caused a problem until this week. For the last 4 nights he has got us up at silly oclock wanting to go. Im talking 3am, 5am etc and Im goosed. I thought the first night maybe he had a bad tummy but he hasnt, hes fine.
We feed him as always between 4 and 5pm, cant do any earlier as hes at work with my hubby all day. We have taken him out at 10pm the last couple of nights for his last walk but again tonight he hasnt been so Im expecting him to get us up again.
He isnt foody, so I doubt he'd eat first thing.
Any ideas
Thanks for reading

Is he actually doing anything.

Might be the light mornings or something outside waking him up?

If it is weeing I would have him checked out for a UTI at the vets.

He wants a poo, he is doing one and must be desperate as he never goes in the garden unless he really needs too. Sorry for TMI :o but they are 'normal'
He does have the typical delicate Lurcher belly and we have to be careful what we feed him but he isnt off in any way, when he gets the occasional bad belly, he goes off his food but hes fine in every way apart from suddenly deciding 3am is toilet time :(

Dogs take about 12 hours to digest food so I would feed later at night. Also try feeding twice a day so there is less volume.

If he's always been clean, it might be worth getting him checked at the vet's, not only for UTI as suggested but also for back pain.

I recently had a similar thing with my 7-year-old cocker, always very clean in the house. Then suddenly 3 nights running he left a large smelly package in the kitchen during the night - quite normal, no constipation/diarrhoea.

When he was taken to the vet, an x-ray showed he's developed mild spondylosis (giving him the feeling that he needs to 'go'). He now has pain control medication and there's been no further problem.

HTH and you find a good solution for your boy.

He didnt get us up last night :D:D I will definately keep an eye on him and start feeding him later, he wouldnt eat first thing and if he continues then it will be a trip to the vets
Thanks again
