I'm currently sat at the yard on my phone so apologies for any mistakes! :)

It's currently raining very hard down here in Devon and i've only been at my yard since august so haven't had to contend with wet rugs and drying them. I have limited storage space and no where to hand them except over the stable door. Is it best to leave these rugs on them to dry overnight? Also in the occasion i have a completely soaked through rug (not that this happens often because all my rugs get waterproofed in the summer) what advice can you give me to get them dry?

Thanks :D

I don't do rug drying.

If the rug is wet, but the horse is dry underneath then I leave rug on horse and it dries nicely whilst keeping horse snug and dry. Mine only have rugs off for grooming and riding

If the rug is wet and horse is wet underneath, then the rug isn't doing it's job and either needs replacing or reproofing.

If you take a wet rug off the horse it will become wet through and not dry for ages unless you have some heating, deffo best avoided imo.

As above, best way is on the horse, but if you don't want to do this or the rug is wet through, a heated rug drier is brilliant and can be used for storage as well as for drying rugs. I've had mine for years (they are still advertised in the back of H&H mag) and tho it doesn't get used all that much, it is cheap to run and is very handy to have. Trying to dry rugs by hanging them on something at this time of year is almost impossible :(

As long as the horse is dry - leave the rug on.

I have always had a pole at the back of the stable for rugs to hang on.

Im also in Devon and this rain is horrible!!!! I agree rugs dry much quicker if u leave them on the horse as long as they are dry underneath no harm done :)

i have nails or hooks nailed up high around the stable or out the front of the stable if there is a decent overhang and hang it up by its withers, its better outside under the overhang where the wind can get to it, drys it on the inside if it needs it! i usually leave mine on unless i take them off to ride or they are staying in overnight then i put a dry stable rug on, some turnouts are bloomin heavy when wet!
