I've got a horrible dilemma that I just can't decide on...one HAS to go due to lack of space and time. I have a wb x mare ive had 7 years who is fantastic, can do anything with, would jump the moon for me etc but because of her conformation she is very 'heavy' to ride (not lack of schooling) and because ive got her where she is, even though she has the sparkle I find her almost boring. Also have tb gelding, I bought off the track last summer, lovely person, huge potential, can be a nob, can get over excited, does rear ocassionally & has had me off but I am enjoying the challenge and he is more 'me'. I can load her up for fun rides/xc anytime & shes good to go, he certainly isn't going to be ready for that in a long time. I can't compare them cos they are 2 completely different horses, she would sell easier & for more but Ive currently got him advertised.....I dont want to sell the wrong one & regret it..........what to do?!?!

me, i would sell the boy but i like mares and i like confidence giving mares. however your explanation read as if you wanted to sell the mare.

Personally, I always enjoy the challenge, so I'd probably keep the TB, but I'd be extremely picky as to who I sold the mare to. Could you put the mare out on loan to someone you'd trust, so that if you felt you'd made the wrong decision, you would have a form of comeback?

If you really can't decide I'd sell the mare because it will be a lot easier to find her a good home :)

Good idea....will spread the word, but boy i'll b fussy who has my girl :)

I read it that you'd prefer to sell the mare too and as others and you yourself said she will be easier to sell and less likely to get moved on when people realise they aren't as brave/ capable as they thought at sorting out a quirky horse like your boy

I personally would sell the boy, you can always get another nutty ex racer but genuine, honest horses are hard to come by IMO.

Everyone is different though

this^^

i reckon if you sell the mare you might regret it and realise once she's gone, what you had.

The way I read this was that if you sell the TB you'd miss the challenge, if you sell the mare you'd miss a best friend. I feel for you :( if a loan of the mare is an option for you I bet people would be queuing up...

I'd probably keep the tb but I think you'd miss the mare if you sell her... Have you looked into other options like part loaning or do you definitely need one gone?

I'd have to say find the best home you can for whoever you can.
Whoever gets the best and most reliable home. Sell him or her to them.
I'd sell the mare probably- better chance of her not being passed about since she is a love ;)

I think the mare stands the best chance of a good home, but if you can then loan her to someonr you can really trust then you can have her back when you want to

Spot on!! Trouble is ive heard so many terrible loan stories its put me off that, I know there are lots of genuine people who are after a loan but theres also the ones that ruin horses  Really, yes one does have to go, I bought tb after a car accident cos I buggered up muscles in my arms & couldn't bear to not ride so wanted something not strong. Hubby has one + my two on 2 acres especially with this crappy weather isn't sufficient grazing. I might work on the theory 'its not my fault nothings selling' ;) Yes you've guessed it, hes the one saying one of mine has to go!!
