Help Please

I am always asking for help with bitting lol! my mare is sooooo strong, shes in a kimblewick at the moment and is still strong, i think now its got to the point that shes just a strong horse and always will be lol! but anyway she only leans on my left hand! shes had her teeth checked and are fine, she's just 5 and they are all grown big and strong now lol, anyway can anyone give me any exercises to work on with her to try and stop her leaning on my left hand, my instructor has been trying to work on it with me and has ridden her so knows what shes like BUT i just wondered if anyone had the same problem or have had this problem and can give me any poniters on what to do!

Lots and lots of transitions.

Also have you tried a Waterford bit or Myler comfort snaffle? They can work wonders.

Also forgot to say if she leans on just the left it might be a good idea to have her back checked if you haven't already.

The easiest bit I've ever ridden my (not strong but a bit heavy in front) cob in is a hackamore. He is so light in hand, you do have to be very delicate, he has total respect for it.

If she leans on your left hand, the problem stems from her lack of engagement of her left hind leg...which in turn blocks the shoulder, and causes resistance in the hand.
To help her, try to do exercises to get her to step under with her left hind - such as turn on the forehand, leg yield (on three quarter line to track and on circles), shoulder in, and plenty of transitions.
At the same time, give your left rein by stroking your hand forward down her neck for a few inches. At first she'll only be able to carry herself for a short while, but she should improve.

I fully agree with what Nepenthe has said. You need to do transitions, leg yielding & turning on the forhand. This will get the rear end engaged. He will start working correctly behind, bringing his hocks underneath him & will become lighter in your hands. Additionally a Waterford may also help with the leaning. It takes time, the change won't be overnight but stick with it & you will reap the benefits.

thanks for all the advice! had her backed checked, nothing wrong! i've tryed a waterford and she still (i don't know how) leans on it lol! i will keep at it and try all the things you have said! i have been working on lots of leg yielding and turn on the forehand as i have had to teach it her lol! anyway thanks loads everyone!
