Hey im sure there has been loads of these, sorry!
bought little pony few months ago, noticed sore patches over mane, neck, chest, forelock, head and tail few days ago, put sweet itch lotion on now ten times worse!!
could it be anything else?
also was thinking bout getting him a boett rug but so expensive are those bug rug ones just as good?xx

it could be switch itch but she could be alergic to the product you used try some stuff called stop itch salve by net tex it is about £20 for a tube it is water proof so you only need to put it on about 3 times a week it worked wonders on my horse!

What sort of pony is he CrazyKid? Gypsy cobs can get patches of very sore, weepy dermatitis during the summer, on their pink skin where the hair is white. Don't like to alarm you but are you sure it's not photosensitivity? Very different from sunburn. It can indicate sinister problems. I'd get the vet out for a look pdq.

No hes an exmoor pony, he doesnt have any white hair, its develop mostly on the top of his head, omg do u think its really serious?

No CK - if he'd had lots of white hair and the sores were photosensitivity, it can indicate ragwort poisoning. But as your ned is an Exmoor with no white it's defo not that. It could be something as simple as lice. With these little ponies, you never know what sort of care they have had before you get them and some get terribly neglected so problems can often rear their ugly heads later on. Have you noticed him rubbing himself against fences and walls? You would definitely see that if it's sweet itch. If so, a good quality sweet itch rug is your best bet or keep him in when the midges are at their worst (dawn and dusk). They are working on developing a vaccine for sweet itch but it will be a while yet. Lice will also make him scratch himself on fences and things but if you look carefully, you can actually SEE lice in the horse's coat. They look like tiny white bot eggs and they can be seen moving very slowly if you stare hard. Yerk! Lice can be cleared up easily by buying Frontline Spray and really working it into the pony's coat. You would need to do it twice, 10 days apart coz the first blast kills the adults but then the eggs hatch out (yerk again) after 10 days and re-infest if you don't do a second blast. If he were mine CK and the pony WASN'T itchy and the sores weren't clearing up or they looked nasty or the pony looked a bit off in other areas like eating and condition and such, then I'd get the vet out just to put my mind at rest x
