Sorry this is rather long and i hope in the right place
Our pony has developed a rash.It is little bumps under the skin on his face and under his tail going down his back legs.you cant actually see them but if you rub them they come of bringing hair with them. He has now rubbed quite a lot hair under his tail, but not his tail if that makes any sense. It looks like sweat from a distance. He is always washed down after working not left sweaty.it doesnt seem to bother him particularly and isnt sore, there isn't any fluid , the bumps are dry . Any ideas what this could be and how to prevent it? Thanks.

It could be a follicular infection or an allergy. At first I thought it might have been rain scald, but its in a funny area.

I would recommend picking of the loose bits of hair and bathing him in hibiscrub or a tea tree oil shampoo and see what happens.

Has he had any change in diet or pasture or anything like that?

If he does not improve with his daily baths, call the vet next week.

Hope he is ok.

No changes whatsoever in his lifestyle, feed or anything. I thought it might be rainscald but like you thought it was in a strange place.

Its very very odd, could he have eaten something in the field to cause light sensitivity? Its still in a very odd place!!

Is he grey?

I would treat as rainscald, picking of scabs and bathing in a medicated shampoo and maybe phone the vet on Monday for advice because it is in a strange place.

Sorry I cant help any further!

Odd, if he was grey, would have thought it may have been light sensitivity.

Have you had a lot of rain recently and has he been without a rug?

I am surprised my horse hasnt got it the amount of rain we have had in scotland and him being rugless, am counting my lucky stars.

Its a complete mystery. If you get to the bottom of it, let me know. Thanks

Good luck x

It might be little midge bites from the little back tiny midges you see on the pooh. My pony had them from the bedding where she had been lying down and they had feasted in certain places. I emptied the stable and washed it out with Jeyes fluid and hung a fly thingy up and washed the pony with hibiscrub, scrubbing the little lumps and then applied sudocrem to the worst areas so they can't take a hold and bite. Now when I muck out I spray the bedding with household fly spray and they have stopped.

Thankyou everyone. Looks like need to invest in industrial quantities of hibiscrub etc. Hopefully that will help.
