Hi, I am based in the North West of England and am looking for a horse to buy i have put the following ad on lots of sites and in ocal tack shops but as yet haven't had alot of response

Hi Everyone,
I am returning to riding after having a bad experience with one of the ex racers which i used to own, i have owned four ex racers so i would consider myself an experienced owner.

The type of horse which i am looking for is the total opposite to the racers, i would like a horse which will look after me, both on the ground and in the saddle basically a horse which generally will appreciate a quieter life and lots of love and hugs.

All i would ask of the horse is that they can confidently hack alone and in co but i do prefer to hack alone so this is of most importance to me.

I dont mind whether a mare or gelding as long as mare not marish, i have only ever had geldings but do not want to rule anything out.

I have no preference to colour or type of horse but i would prefer not to be a thoroughbred, i would in an ideal world i would like a medium weight carrying cob but as mentioned above nothing is ruled out except tb's. age i would like min 6yrs old max 16 really and max height of 15.3.

Whilst the horse would be mine my boyfriend who is a complete novice would love to learn to ride too so the horse would need to be able to turn its hoof to teaching him to ride.
My max budget is 2000, i have my own car so can travel but would prefer horse to be in North West if at all possible.

Does anyone know of anything suitable i would prefer to be within 10 miles of Bolton Lancashire if possible

Thanks for looking

By the sounds of things, you're looking for an absolute saint (aren't we all!) and sadly they are usually a lot more than £2k...unless you would be happy to accept somthing with soundness issues maybe?

the safe ones are the pricey ones usually! But if you're not in a hurry just keep looking on websites and something will come along i'm sure! Good luck!

Cobs n plods aren't far from you and they get a good write up from the people on here. £2k will be pushing it though for what you're after. Good luck - but for max chance of success I would expand your search, as 10 miles out of Bolton is a little too narrow to find what your looking for.

Thanks ive never heard of cobs and plods will search for them on internet - i could go to 2500 but that would be stretching as far as i could really.
im more concerned about the horse accepting my partner i dont want him to have a bad experience the first time he rides if you see what i mean but i am in no rush so will keep looking

I know from recent experience that you will struggle to find one not only for your budget but also you will be lucky to find one with 100 miles of where you are never mind 10 miles. I was looking for a really safe horse to do RC on and I travelled over 1000 miles in a month. My budget was £3500 and was told I would struggle.

The main thing on your side is you are willing to have something older than I was, my max age was 10 so it did make things harder.

However I think given time and travelling further you will find one.

I know you didn't ask BUT I can't advise enough that if the horse is advertised well and still for sale after a week don't even bother going to see it unless its local. I viewed loads and loads and the ONLY one that was any good had only been advertised that same day and I bought him
