i have a gorgeous springer spaniel who is now aged 11. she has had issues in the past that i've posted on here about but she is generally as healthy as can be. her issiues are mainly mental. anyway last night she chewed through my phone charger cable while it was plugged in!!!!!! how she didn't electrocute herself or burn the house down i do not know. she's not a chewy dog really. (i have in the past posted about her chewing through doors but that is a reaction to thunder or fireworks). its almost like she did this in her sleep...any ideas anyone? we are at the end of our tethers! seriously considering pts as although physically healthy her behaviour is becoming more warped every day. she gets loads of walking/exercise and attention! i'm flummoxed.

pts is a very last resort believe me. she is kept amused...any problems occur at about 3 am. we've tried letting her sleep outside, she currently sleeps in my bedroom as that is where she is quietest. she is great majority of the time but at least once a day or every second day she has some kind of silly episode. its like she is losing her mind one minute then perfect again...vets are a bit lost as well.

she may have become anxious about something that happened one night ( a thunderstorm perhaps) which has led to this anxiety based behaviour - if she comes from working lines she could simply be predisposed to this kind of hyper irrational behaviour - I think she may be caught up in a vicious circle in that bedtime means worry - worry means chewing - morning means mum shouts at her so next bedtime she worries even more .... chews even more... gets shouted at even more etc etc.

Break the cirle by preventing her doing any more damage - pop her in a crate - ignore her protests for the first few nights ( or prevent them by having the crate next to your bed

) and the give her loads of praise and a good walk in the morning.

good luck
