On Monday morning we went up to the yard to find one of the horses stood with his back legs tucked right under, shaking and very reluctant to walk, It was raining and had been all night, he had his rain sheet on and felt warm under it, he has lived out all winter with a 100g rug at maximum and was nice a toasty, we brought him in a warmed him up and rung the vet, he came down and took some blood for testing as he thought he could be Insullin Resistant, He put him on box rest for a few days and got the test results back today and he was clear from being Insullin Resisant but possible muscle damage. Has any one everexperience this before and know what could have been causing the way he was in the field? Also could someone tell me the sign's of symptoms of a cold horse? Thank you in advance x

Had he been ridden hard the day before? It's sounds a bit like azoturia (tieing up)... The effects may not have been apparent at first but the cold rain could have made the symptoms worse overnight. I'm no expert so i'm not sure, i expect the vet would have spotted this if it was the case though :o

Thank you for replying! He hadn't been ridden hard the day before, thursday and friday was resnably hard, doing jumping, did refuse a jump on friday so that may have cause some damage and I was pulling on his mouth hard on one side trying to stay on which could have caused him to move and odd way causing some injury(nothing apparent at the time or the few days after) saturday he had off and had a basic school on Sunday, no apparent injury whilst ridden at all, He is a pleaser so he might have been in pain but not shown it x

I felt all down his back and gave him a good check over, He gave him a dose of pain killers and Danilon(I forgot to mention this, sorry) He seemed sound trotting and cantering when we put them out today and is back to his normal self, There was another horse we know of that had exactly the same symptom's as him but they were cold through out and he was quite warm. He has 2 more days of the Danilon so hopfully they've made a difference and he'll be right as rain by the weekend! x
