hi everyone,
just wondered if anyone has any fool proof confidence boosters! i am doing a clear round tonight on my girly and i am petrified already. I want to do it at 2ft 3 tonight (i know it's really small!) because i want to try our first novice 2ft 3 class on saturday. I just keep imagining the worst case scenario which is me falling off and making an idiot of myself. we jumped 2ft 3 on friday and i enjoyed it, but after a few days the confidence wears off and i feel like im back at the beginning. will I ever feel confident at jumping!? help! i think its because my girly is young and i feel like i have to have confidence for both of us!

Remeber to breathe, nice and deep! I know it sounds silly but it's the number one thing to make people tense!

If you've jumped this height before then shouldn't be a prob....your horse could jump these from a trot easily.
Also, imagine the round doing everything right, how you want it to go, remember you don't need to rush or cut corners at all, take it nice and easy....

thanks, i know im being a wimp but i just doubt myself and her which is really unfair of me because she is such a good girl and tries her heart out for me. i think it's because i feel like my lack of confidence if stopping her from reaching her full potential, i feel really guilty because she could probably jump 3ft3 with her eyes shut!!

I have a similar problem! I've found the best thing to do is to give yourself small things to concentrate on. So start on getting your horse relaxed walking and trotting round the warm up. When you're doing this, mentally tick it off. Then concentrate on the canter, then a really small practice jimp and build it up. Give your horse lots of praise when she does well, it always makes me feel better. I know this wouldn't work for everyone but I get really nervous jumping and when I go into the ring or the cross country I just think about the fence I'm coming up to, rather than the whole thing at once. Otherwise, I'm worrying about the fence I don't like and not concentrating on the fence I'm getting to. I'm sure you'll be fine!! Good luck!! x

I'm terrible when in comes to jumping nerves. I'm a real wimp. Abbie suggestion of taking one thing at a time is fantastic, concentrate on each on its own rather than a whole. Do you have a really confident friend/knowledgeable person to go with you? My last working hunter my 'team' were my rock!

If all else fails I resort to half a bottle og Kalms

Dont Worrie , Just Keep Breathing , Look Foward And Change All The Posstives Into Negitives..! You'll Be Fine..!!
Good Luck

hehe, that is so funny you should mention kalms tables because i just took some rescue remedy, and im not doing it until about 7! im such a wimp. thanks so much everyone, just knowing people feel the same makes me feel better because i see 11 year olds flying around 3ft 3 classes and wonder why im so pathetic! taking one at a time sounds like a brilliant plan. my best friend is the yard manager and will be there, but she loves my pony to bits and says i just need to 'point and kick' because pony will do the rest. that doesnt help my nerves though! xx
