Went out to check horses this evening, and found our 26 year old pony in the feed room with a bin full of alpha a all over the floor and a bag of Spillers Conditioning Mix has been ripped open and about half of it has been eaten!! Looks like pony has only eaten the conditioning mix, but has eaten a lot and am now very worried that should get colic!
Is there any i can do to limit the chances!?!? She has never had colic before and is not prone to laminitus, but does not mean she can't get it.
They live out, checked them this morning before going out shopping for the day. Must have not put the latch on properly on the door, as sometimes if you slam it, it can bounce back slightly and you don't realise. I feel so bad, it will be my fault if anything happens to her. I think my horse, very good doer, also ate some as his stomach is looking a bit round, but going to ride him in half an hour and hope he's ok.
Any advice?
Thanks

Its not your fault, firstly, we've all done something very similar!! Haha.

I would personaly ring the vet, get their advice, and then I'd sit with him for a few hours and just check he doesn't show signs.

Hope he's alright!

Good thing they didnt get into a raw sugabeet bag thought, that happened to me once :( old horse started choking everytime she ate, then managed to reach over the opening right over to the sugabeet bin, tipped it over and ate it :( it got stuck in her throat and expanded.... :(
Im sure your horses will be fine :)

Oh god, now i'm scared :(
Just went out to check them, they were eating grass when i went out. Stayed with them for 10 mins or so, they're now hanging around in the sheltered area, and just standing around. Haven't seen any go to loo, but were eating and the pony had some water.
Going to ring vets now.

Once Beau got out of his stable at night time and went and eat all the brekkie outside all the stables which was about 30+ horses with all differents types of feed, staight, comp mix all the fed that he doesnt get!! I phone the vet and they just said to watch him put him out so he can walk around. This was in winter time too even more bigger feeds!!! Luckly he was ok. Hope yours is ok too.

Hope he's alright! - but definitely have a word with your vet, my friends mare got into the feed barn and ate all the goat feed - next day she was crippled with lami - so do keep checking on him through the night too.

We've all been there though, I even based one of my cartoons on just this topic!! A few years ago while my mum was unloading the car after going to tescos she had left the boot open and gone inside to answer the phone - our old cob got out of his field some how and picked up a 15kg bag of dog biscuits out of the boot and ran down the yard with it, he then dropped it and proceeded to start munching the trail of biscuits he had left - luckily he only ate a small amount before he was discovered!!!:D Let us know how he gets on!

Hahaha Alexart, that did make me laugh!
The vet said same as everyone really, to just keep an eye on them over the night and look out for any symptoms. Also that it was good that they were out, so could walk around.
Have been checking them frequently and none seem to be showing any signs of pain or discomfort, but will continue to check over the night and tomorrow.
I think *fingers crossed* *touch wood* that we had a lucky escape. Will definately be putting a lock on the door now!
Thank you for all your help.

I would keep a very close eye on them, so long as they are not colicy i'm sure they'll be fine, my sons old pony once broke out of her stable and into feed room, she was found with her head in the unsoaked sugarbeet bin, I was frantic, phoned vet who basically said there is nothing they can do UNLESS she gets colicy but to keep a close eye, I slept at the yard in her stable that night, she was absolutely fine.
