Ok guys need your help my horse is petrified of indoor schools !!!

He does this in dressage and jumping - he goes and tight and tense as anything and wont listen to anything you ask !!

Yesterday was really bad as the weather was horrible and we proceeded to rear, bronk and buck round the school while trying to jump the fences !! i even got clapped on the way out for staying on - i felt like a rodeo rider x

Well im going to hire every indoor school in the South East now - but i wondered how other people have got over this fear he is really sensitive to noise to !!! (am going to do another post on this)

My horse is very similar, it is best to just keep going out. Take the pressure right off and let them enjoy it. I am going to Sands on Sun to do Intro BSJA show and am just going to do the clear round and then the 70cm (which admittedly is small) but becuase she is a stress head its all about keeping it low, easy and gaining her confidence

Thats exactly what i thought to be honest !! He was fine at norton heath the other day but yesterday was really bad he hasnt been that naughty since i first got him just backed !!! how i stayed on i dont know !!

Dont worr about the hight im doing the same thing - i know he can jump a lot bigger but until he is popping round the small ones with no fight whats the point - and i can jump those from a stand still as well !! !

mine hates indoor schools, he freezes after a jump, then goes up and runs backwards...then proceeds to jump around grinding his teeth the whole time. Hes not in pain, been checked etc and loves to jump. He wears his silly fly veil all year round and that helps sooo much as it muffles noises, I also warm up outside ie in the carpark(well, as much as you can do!) and then trot in to the ring and dont jump in the warmup- especially at Sands and RL where its indoor warmup too.
If I ever take him to dressage I lose marks for talking to him but its the only thing that keeps us from exploding.
I feel your pain!!

oh good im so glad its not just me !!! well i think in future im going to lunge him at home before i leave so his muscles are a little warmer !!! mine is the same will jump outside and do dressage all day long - its just the indoor arena !!!

Lets hope i can get him sorted soon as he has already broken my nose once !!! xx

The less time u spend in the ring the better- if he already knows his job(jumping) then as long as hes warm and listening Id go in, get it done then come out..I used to feel bad making him jump indoors but now we have our little routine its much better. : )

trying to think what indoor there is around here hun!!

take him to duckhurst hun!! i think there school looks more open and inviting and there are so nice there unless they are really pushed for time they will let you sort him out!! take him to the mini novice shows ask to go right at the end or something so your not holding anyone up ??
To be fair to him eaglesfield is very 'indoor' if you get what i mean? its quite dark and very noisey and busy, duckhurst doesnt have all solid 4 walls, its a lot more airy and light

Could you hire one out once a week and just go and walk around it without the pressure of competing?

Next week got a rally on the saturday indoors !!! Its just allt he noises as well of a show day that get him to though xx
