Thinking about going to the racing at Newcastle on Friday evening. However, i really dont have a clue what would be acceptable to wear! I know there's the two enclosures, premier and paddock&grandstand. Premier is more formal and grandstand less so.. but what is allowed in the grandstand? Can you turn up in jeans and boots and watch the races, or is it still dresses for women and shirt/trousers for men?

Our local track is a jeans and polo shirt sort of place - that said it was voted worst racecourse in Britain and ireland by the Racing Post a year or so ago.

I dont think newcastle is a "posh" one though - so neat attire should be fine.

I've been to the races, (just the grandstand, no particular enclosure) in my 'smart' (i.e. dark denim, not frayed around the bottom and nicely pressed!) jeans and heeled boots with a smart top and jacket and felt appropriately dressed. Linen trousers are a good bet for something like this in the summer, as you can dress them up or down depending on what you put with them and they're comfy if you're there for the whole day.

Jeans is fine at Newcastle!!

The tracks only really get snotty about dress on the 'big' days, anyway.

If you're going to watch racing and horses, and do the paddock, betting ring, stands, winnners enclosure and bar, then wear confortable shoes!!

If you're out for a purely social time, with the odd flutter, and are doin the meal and posing bit, the you can dress up if you like.

Have fun, whatever you decide!!
