My mums best friend is in her sixties and husband had altzheimers, the grandchildren are not near enough to come and help and she really can't manage anymore. They need to be re-homed.

What would you say her best options are
She has a 14.2 happy hacker, very laid back but age unknown, they think he could be around 20, but still full of life, a lovely pony - even my mum gets on him occasionally!
And a 12.2, he is 9 and does suffer from Laminitus, but is not a novice pony, can be naughty, but he had never really done very much.

Mum is getting more details from her tomm, but wanted an ideas/options open to her.

Do you think the ILPH would be the best option? We have one local to us.

at any other time the ILPH would be worth asking, but I don't know how they stand at the moment - weren't they trying to rehome some of their existing horses to make space for the amersham horses?

Not sure, its the one in Blackpool - suppose I could always give them a call.

The 12.2 could be a great kids pony, all I know is he can be naughty - but not sure if that is because he does'nt get enough work.

The ILPH were advertising to re-home their current horses but I suppose they are still worth a try. The might be able to put you in touch with someone else. TBH I would have thought it would be relatively easy to rehome the happy hacker as there are so many people who want a horse like that. Good luck!

EMW have taken 5 of the Amersham horses, I think the sanctuaries may be full. However, they do re-home direct from the original owner to the loaner sometimes, so it's definitely worth giving them a ring.
(BIG fundraising party for EMW in Kent on Feb 9th to help with the costs! Send me a message if you want more info).

im sure you would have no problems either selling or loaning the ponies out but i don't think you should go straight to charities due to them being overloaded at this point in time.

just an example i found on stabletalk.com

wanted a very special horse. 14.2hh - 15.2hh cob type, but be suitable for nervous children, so very safe, sane, not to buck, rear or bolt. unflappable, not spooky and good on roads. age, looks and some medical conditions considered, i just ask you to be honest. in return will offer a 5 star home for the rest of its life

I know its such a difficult time with the charities, will have a trawl through the wanted ads, just need to ensure they go to a good home and no one unscrupulous!

i know what you mean i went through wanted ads when selling my little pony and did end up with a few unsuitable people or people pulling out at the last minute and have finally found her a fab home which she seems to be fitting into well i guess it depends how much time you have to find new homes another charity is trawllm (sp) farm in south wales i don't know if they are helping with with the recent inccident(sp) but if you have no joy might be worth a try as well
