Help re horsebox ventilation

Could any of you with horseboxes tell me what sort of ventilation you have in the horse area please?
My horsebox has 3 windows at the horses head side and 2 vent windows on the other but if it is warm they come out sweating on the very shortest of journeys so I'm worried about the longer journeys and warmer days.
Does a roof vent make alot of difference? or extractor fan etc etc?????
With regards to the roof vents is one enough? Is there an optimum position to increase air flow?? Is a rotary vent better or worse than the pop up type??

Any advice would be much apprieciated :)
 
probably not a lot of help but for what it is worth - have 3 windows both sides, behind the horses are more the vent types and one roof vent. Don't have roof vent open when travelling as far as I know.

Generally only travel one and he doesn't sweat up normally - did a four hour plus journey on Sunday (should have been 2 hours but stuck on motorway in traffic jam) and was fine. Other new horse sweats up even just on a short journey so may be looking at putting a fan in. OH has a fan off of a car which he is planning toadapt and instal somehow (he is a mechanic so has a plan!) or else put a drain in for the sweat to run out (only joking on last bit).

Will be interested in the replies re fans.
 
Hi - I had the same problem! I had a roof vent / roof window fitted.
It has really helped - circulates the air and no sweaty ponies :-)
I think it was about £50 for part and fitting. I left the guy to position it where he thought best (ended up in middle!) as he converts horseboxes so alot more knowledge!
It pushes up and tilts like a sun roof on a car :-) Can get pics later if want.

my lorry had exactly the same set up window wise as yours and mine were coming out hot, had two vents fitted at back of lorry, you just pop them up and have never had the trouble since!! also check what padding you have on your partitions, mine had a plastic leather effect and this was not helping with the heat either!!
 
Thank you, will look at getting a vent put in asap. Just didn't want to do the wrong thing then spend more putting something different in! Was looking at the intake/ extract fans but didn't know if they were any good for the price?
 
It is easy and relatively inexpensive to fit forced air ventilation. The electric fans are fitted through the roof and force cool air in . It is better that they blow inwards rather than suck air out .

Hi Mike, I have a very capable OH who could fit one, but I'm not sure what make/size etc to get. Any chance you could advise please?
 
The padding and insulation in the lorry will affect the neds.
Mine has three slide windows on each side and no padding on the partitions and they don't have the rubber sheet either.
Mine don't tend to get warm....
