help re viewing a youngster

A two year old has come up for sale which I saw advertised last year. I am going to ask about viewing her as from the picture (last year) I absolutely fell in love.

Thing is, her price has gained almost a grand (she's been lightly shown) and she's gained nearly two more of herself :( gone is the svelte yearling with a pretty head, hello porker.

Am I being crazy?? How bad will the damage to her joints be?? How would I get the weight off??

With her being so young, I don't really want to do much other than establish decent manners if she doesn't have them already..
 
Hmm, well in my mind (and not being overly experienced in buying youngsters but did buy a 15mth old a couple of years back), if she was that 'special' she'd have been sold by now surely?

Ok, so she's done some showing (has she won?)

Is the shape she is now more of her 'type' do you think or do you just think she's actually just fat?

I think it's pretty straightforward to get weight off a horse TBH and, if she's not doing any excessive work then I don't think too much damage will have been caused in reality.
 
That's what I thought! Which is why I'm so stunned that she's for sale again a year on, and it looks to be from the same people as last time.

All they say is "lightly shown", no further details have been given, definitely something to ask about.

She's fat - pretty much a barrel on matchsticks :(

If she really is that fat now, it would put me off. There are many lovely youngsters for sale at low/very reasonable prices at the moment, so I would keep looking.

I do believe in fate with these things. The one I bought I'd seen his ad, it expired and then a few weeks later it was on again. I had been looking for a 2yo + as didn't have the finances for a backed horse but wanted something to bring on so I could slowly retire my oldie.

something about this 15hh 15mth old appealed though so I went to view, liked and bought! He's now 4, almost 16.2hh and a lovely stamp of a horse (albeit we are going through some rather severe saddle-fitting issues!). I do have great hopes for him as everyone says what a nice looking horse he is and what good paces he has. I just liked him! I think you get a 'feel' for some horses but to be honest you need to see a youngster in the flesh first I think.
 
Oh and following from what faracat said - I wouldn't pay an inflated price just because she's been out and about. There are a lot of nice youngsters about but what you like is what you like!
