Just as I thougt he was ready to go back out in his field tommorrow after having a loony in his field ending up on box rest with a sore leg!! Now his hopping lame with a god dam absecss same foot, same place as nearly two years ago!! Had farrier out to remove shoe and revely the absecess nothing came out so tried to hot tub it yeah right thats not going to be a opintion as I ended up with most of the water on my leg though him not wanting it to be done!! Anyway hot poilutce is on tonight ans im praying it comes staight out not like it done last time when it came out in two places and took forever to burst!!

After farrier dugged around he metion that he might need all the old scraed tissule that have heald up over the last ones to be complety removed and this stuff to be put it and a metra plate on top pf it too??? Cant rem what the stuff called?? We have used putter in the pastd.

Anyway what Im confussed over as its been such a long time since his last one so how come this flare up in the same spot??? O he gets them on the side of the wall which normally burst either on the corant band and just under the sole like staight down under his foot if you know what I mean?? As you can propley try Im not that techloy on the corret wording for the foot!!!

He never gets them in any other foot!!!!!! So is it bactreia thats somehow got in there doing this or is it the old tissure that might have to be removed and him be on box rest for quite a while!!

Quite hard to read your posting ( not being funny honeslty) but can you do a spell check?

From what I gather, your horse has an abccess?
I would leave it well alone to heal on itself; take shoes off and as pixi suggests use some hoof boots

i'm trying but i really can't make head or tail of half of the words you use. what is "rearuacly" supposed to mean? spellcheck would be a really good idea, sorry.
get vet if farrier isn't doing a great job. horse may well need antibiotics.

Right heres again yes it is a abccess yes Ive had his shoe taken off last night he found the spot didnt want to dig to much due to the scrae tissues thats there from last time. Not sure about others boots as his a size 5 in shoes. I did look into the Davids boots so he could go out they only come up to a size 4 I think. I have put a extra 3 bale of bedding down last night. Pick feet out etc and he doesnt get thrush or a abccess in any other foot. And yes I know my spelling is appalling at times. All Im doing now with it is just hot poulltcs and praying it comes out more tommorrow. Really dont want to give anibods as vet wasnt really happy last time about giving them to me. His a bit better today able to bear weight more.

What I am asking for adivce on is have anyone had the same experince as what we are going though now? Bearly in mind it's been nearly two years from his last one? He havnt lostd shoe or even twistd etc. So how come this long of a peroid then a flare up??

I too am struggling with this ! I am assuming 'scrae' tissue is scar tissue and 'Rearuacly foot absecess' is recurring foot abcess
If it is another abcess then after 2 years in my mind it is not a recurrance just another abcess in almost the same place .Some horses are prone to abcesses and often they occur in the same foot.
If the farrier doesn't want to dig too much then I would be getting the vet as any pus must be released or it will not get better and damage to the bones of the foot can occur if the infection is left untreated.
With one of my horses who had a really deep seated abcess the vet brought out a mobile xray out to pin point the seat of the abcess then dig it out .
It did leave an enormous hole but after poulticing and dressing it eventually the farrier was able to fill it and put a pad over it to protect the hole .After 2 sets of shoes it had completely covered over and no pad was needed.

Yes you are right re my poor spelling!! Sorry!! The very first one he had he ended up in RVC as vet couldnt find anything wrong with his foot thought higher up hence him being refered. He had load's of tests done which after proved it was abcess. Spent a week there then home for box restd Poulticing etc then once dried up we used putter every time he was shod every 5 weeks. The first one was deep seated to the pedal bone and it had two exitd holes one in the corantband and the other just a inch or so from the bulb of heel?? I will see how he is later. Q was yours on the sole of foot?? Thanks

The abcess was really high up but accessed from the sole of the foot near the point of the frog .The hole the vet dug out was horrifyingly big about a quater of the sole !!! He did at one point suspect involvement of the pedal bone which was a little frightening and woud have had a very poor prognosis. He was sore on the foot for some time but was sound after about a month.
It is now about a year ago and he has been sound ever since.

Wow!! Glad all is well now! He's ones have been in the side of wall if thats worded corrertly?? I know it's frighting re pedal bone I was told too he was luckly with his first one as there burstd it before any other problems!!

I would not consider an abcess recurrent if one has appeared in a similar or the same place after TWO YEARS. This is in fact a very long time without an abcess at all for some horses and recurent abcesses are very frequent and some horses just seem to get one after another after another. this is not the same thing.

Its likely that it is in the same place because there may now be a slight weakness where the old abcess was and infection was able to enter the hoof in the same or a similar place.

the ancess might currently be too high up in the hoof for excavation. polticing will encourage the infection out of the hoof
