Hi all need some advice from you lot.

Friend has been asked if she would consider moving into a house and house sit. They have 26 dogs ( breeder ) all loose massive house and garden but separated at night and if any are in season obviously separated. They also have 3 birds a guinea pig and gerbil.

She has asked me how ouch to charge each day but I've no clue so I need your suggestions please. She will be moving in and using the house as her own.

Thanks

if you are comfortable with the idea of looking after all the animals then ask around and see if you can get prices from other house sitters in the area. i am not sure if many will look after that amount of dogs, if they are loose then I would not feel happy leaving the place during the day so would be charging as a full time job.

how long are you doing it for?

It was £20 per dog for my lot to be in a very nice kennels while we were away, lots of walks. (We got a discount for having three) So for someone to look after that many, I'd be asking easily £40 a day to stay the 100%

The majority of house sitters in this area (Suffolk) charge £40 per 24 hours to look after a few cats and/or dogs and/or horses. They are not expected to stay at the house all the time, maybe a few hours out for shopping etc. This fee also include 2 good walks per day. Is the sitter expected to walk 26 dogs every day????
That's a heck of a responsibility, and I would think £100 per 24 hours would be fair. If they put all the dogs into kennels, it would cost a lot more than that, and with a sitter, they have the added advantage of the house being occupied, someone to water the garden and indoor plants.

No she is not walking the dogs they have the run of a massive garden/ field so play times I think. Will be on a weekend basis and then two weeks once a year. I was thinking around £70 a day as she has to put her own dogs into kennels whilst doing it.

Utterly ridiculous!!! Why can't she take her dogs with her???? She will still have to supervise their exercise, she can't just open the door and let 26 dogs out together. I would definitely charge £100 per 24 hours if I was having to put my own dogs into kennels in order to do the job.

What's ridiculous? Do you mean the owner take 26 dogs on holiday now i think thats abit ridiculous !!! She has been to see them they all live very well together and are separated at night when nobody is with them. To be fair she said she would not of even known there were that many dogs all very chilled some playing rest fast asleep. I suggested £75 per day min.

I meant ridiculous that she has to kennel her own dogs in order to help out this person, and the costs involved, as well as possible trauma to her dogs, unless they are used to being in kennels? In which case £120 a day is far more realistic. They might all get on well together, but there will still be lots of washing up and poo picking to do!
