Hi
This site was recommended as a good way to get new horsey contacts!!
We are moving from the Midlands to Hampshire/Wiltshire.
Any ideas for yards, vets or farriers?

Welcome! You probably need to be a bit more specific about where you are looking. Which town will you be nearest to? I'm in West Berkshire (near Newbury/Hungerford) and very close to both the Hampshire and Wiltshire borders.

We have looked at a property near the New Forest but have been warned about the crab flies!! so want to livery slightly away from the forest!

Cool...The New Forest is AMAZING for riding...yes the crab flies are a nightmare at times but most of the horses cope well. 1 on our yard has to leave over the summer but the other 16 are fine.

I don't know whether you would avoid the crab flies in the Romsey area? someone else might help with that.

www.NFED.co.uk is a great site for info on this area...lists of yards/ instructors etc under classified and services.

If you're on Facebook, join Hampshire Hooves too as lots of advice on there about farriers, dentists etc.

If you're going to be around Winchester/Southampton, PM me and I will recommend the farriers/dentists etc. I know of in that area. I relocated to Hampshire a few years ago -brought the horse with me from way up north - and we've never been happier. :):)

I Grew up in the New Forest and nothing beats the riding! My ponies never had a problem with the crab flies! I still take our two horses on holiday every summer and they are fine too!

Most horses/ponies learn to cope with the crab flies... I really would not let them put you off where you choose to live or keep your horses.
