My horse was wearing a bandage that was held on with a sticky bandage called Treatplast. It is like an Elastoplast vetwrap and sticks to the horses hair on its leg. It is very good for holding things in place however now that I've taken it off she is left with rings of sticky elastoplast round her legs and I can't get it off. It's like the residue left behind when you wear a plaster.

I've tried everything scrubbing, hot water to melt it, surgical spirt, shampoo - it won't come off.

The problem is that her legs has now reacted to it as the pores are clogged up and are getting all blistered and swollen. I've put a poultice on it tonight to see if that works.

Has anyone any ideas how I can get this stuff off her as I am stumped and its now getting icky.

Thanks!

How about some sort of silicone spray - would that work? Something like canter coat shine or whatever it is called. Failing that nail varnish remover usually gets sticky stuff off but I'd be wary of using that if her leg is sore.

you never quite know with adhesives cos there is so many variation in the ingredients but if you get it cold you can often pick most of it off. the warmer and more vicose it gets the stickier it is so reverse that. you will need to use a waterproof liner so leg does not get wet (plastic bag will do) and just ice it as you would for an injury about 20 mins on and then see if that works a little.
i do agree it is a complete drag and i have also used swarfega which seems to disolve everything but as i said it depends what exactly is in the gluex

Thank you - tomorrow I will try some silicone and also swarfega - not at the same time. I'll stick some ice cube bags in the freezer as well tonight and see if that will work.

Funnily enough, we used baby wipes tonight to get stockholm tar off sticky fingers- only thing we had to hand and it worked a treat too!
Friend's little pony- Chaz, (16.3 and rising) wouldn't stand still to get his feet done so on wandering off for the fifth time had the hoof brush thrown at him tonight. Tomorrow's lesson- how to get stockholm tar out of a turn out rug!!

Thank you very much Merlinsquest and Weezy, I used Baby oil and she now no longer has horrible sticky stuff all over her legs. I had to put it on. Let it soak a bit, then scrape it off with some scissors. Which did then leave a disgusting black film of goey stuff over her legs, but a wash with Hibiscrub got rid off that.

So Thank you very much and hopefully now her legs will clear up
