Help required in keeping greys clean

I'm at my wits end trying to keep my boy clean, bath one day, dirty the next, I'm going to my first showing show at the weekend so will be bathing him on sat for sun morn, any suggestions on how to keep him clean overnight so I dont hv to cry when I turn up sun morn to find him stained and dirty again lol.

Is he turnout out or kept in at night? If possible I would bath him Sat and turn him out over night (mud is much easier to get off than stable stains).

I always used to bath my grey mare the night before a competition then rug her up with either a light weight stable rug with a neck cover or a summer sheet and one of those balaclava style head/neck covers on!! Shes one of those horses that will find the only piece of poo that is left in her stable and lay in it! ALso I make sure I spray her all over with coat shine. I bandage her tail up and put tights on it to so it stays clean rather than green/brown! Then all I have to do if she has managed to get any poo stains is spot wash her.

Ive found that the best shampoo for my mare is the shimmering white shampoo by Alto lab.

ok, all my horses have been grey and i have a coloured, never had a bay till now,
This what i do with my grey

wash from head to toe in Quicksilver shampoo, with the tail i leave the shampoo in for 5mins then wash out, then i get some chalk powder and mix with water so it makes a paste and paste it on to there legs then bandage them up, with the tail i plait into a tail wrap (made by snuggy hoods)
with the plaits i put a leg of a pair of tights on them and band it around each one, this stops bedding getting stuck to them, My mare then weres a hood and a rug to bed, if it summer then just a sheet but always somthing, you may get a couple of small stains but nothing much, when you remove leg bandages just brush out the chalk and you will have white legs,

I would just bath on the show day, there's nothing more depressing than going up in the morning to find them more dirty than you could possibly imagine

. Even then, I find by the time I get him out the trailer he's magically dirty again, I don't know how he manages it

Seconded, my mare was much cleaner turned out. I used a summer sheet, cotton hood and leg wraps as a safer than bandages and plaited her tail before putting it in a stocking.

I loosey plait and fold his tail up then bandage (not too tight) then in the morning I damp it with water to straighten out the waves. Get some redrum white stuff...quickly clean off any stains he gets over night (this stuff gets anything off) Stable bandage legs (again damp them if they curle the hair) Make sure theres plenty time for him to dry, so do this first, he should be bone dry by the time you unload him at the grounds. Plait his mane night before then get a leg of tights and secure on with bands. Also try leave him with a really clean bed so theres less to dirty him self with so and remember to take out likits etc. Remember baby whips to do any last touch ups like eyes and nose.

Invest in a dust buster from rambo. Alternitively learn from your experiance.....Sell that one and go get one in a better colour

Echo the above EXCEPT I have found that the Rambo sweetitch hoody rug sprayed with waterproofer keeps the majority of a very mucky horse clean. Also helps to lay the plaits down a bit (thick mane so can stick up a bit) and keeps them clean. I even turn out in the morning before a show in this and so far so good.

buy a full body slinky! Oakridge QH's do them for £69.99 and they cover the whole body, neck and head, and belly (where my grey gets filthy!). then bandage the legs (I cheat and spray mine black on show day as he still has a bit of natural black there). you can find a link to oakridge on www.thewesternshop.com
