Help required, new greyhounds arriving Friday!

We have been planning for 6 months to get a greyhound from the greyhound trust, had to have a holiday and move house first! We went to see them on Sunday, and couldn't possibly choose one so we are having 2...

A large brindle dog (who by all accounts was an excellent racer the trainer thought much of) and a small black bitch (who was definately not a good racer, but only out of racing a week)
Now the help I need is choosing names, we are stuck? Unfortunately I cannot yet post pictures as I only have internet access at work.
The dog is springy and confident, the bitch is very shy and likes a cuddle, maybe we'll have to meet them again to see what really suits them, but it'd be nice to be prepared to help them settle.
Also, what would be the best thing to feed them? I will get them whatever they are currently on to begin with, but want them to have the best!
 
I don't know their racing names, the dog is called Dawko, his trainer was called Mr Dawkins and named him after himself! And the bitch has been assigned Gypsy. They do not know their names though, they just have them as an 'ID'
 
Hi, visit www.greyhound-dat.com and you can search for your greyhounds name/ ancestry by clicking on 'dog search' link on the home page. I found Dawko on there! - I don't think there can be many dogs with that name. Gypsy might cause a bit of a problem as there are many with that name and Gypsy appears as lots of part-names.

Hopefully the rehoming kennels will give you more information about your adoptees when you collect them. When we brought our two greys home, we got an information pack with them, giving us details of their temperment witnessed whilst they were in the kennels, any old racing injuries, and their racing name.

When you bring them home, it is a good idea to keep them on what they have been fed at the kennels, then gradually introduce a change if you want to. I feed our two on Skinners Maintenance (orange bag) with a topping of Chappie which I find suits them very well. Be prepared for a few days / couple of weeks of the squits as its a huge change in routine for greys when they they first come home and they usually suffer from an element of stress.

I'm sure you've been offered lots of advice on adopting greyhounds, The best I can offer is be prepared to give them lots of time and patience and love. They make fantastic house dogs, enjoy - you've got loads of laughs ahead!
 
I feed mine on Skinners Field Trial Duck and Rice and would 100% recommend it - I've had sighthounds for over 20 years now, and have never had them looking better than they are on this food

Having said that, I have never had a problem with upset stomachs or the like when I have taken on a new greyhound (and I have had six so far, about to get my seventh)

Lucky you taking on two together, I havent had the opportunity to do that, hope they bring you lots of enjoyment and dont forget lots of pics

We weren't planning on 2 together, i thought we'd get a dog now and then one in the new year, alas, who could resist those little sad faces, and it's going to be better for them to have each other for company and support.
Will post photos when we get internet at home sorted, obviously order of importance upon moving house was 1) get dogs 2) get internet!
