Hello All

Can you help me?

I had someone video me riding pony on sunday and I've noticed that when jumping the saddle flaps ALOT at the back - at one jump it looks to be a good 6 inch away from her back!! nightmare - I only got it checked last month.

Does anyone know why a saddle flaps at the back like this - its it because its too wide? Its a general purpose saddle - the fences were only small but pony jumping them as if they were 3ft + (which is big for me - :-P)

The saddle doesnt flap at all when riding on the flat.

I will of course get a new saddle if needs be but some advice on what causes a saddle to flap at the back and what the implications are would be much appreciated - assuming that it shouldn't do that although have been watching a lot of show jumping of late and see alot of saddles flap like this ?? Pony seems happy and keen to jump as ever but its doesnt look very nice - physio was out for a rountine MOT a month ago and found nothing to be worried about.

All advice would be helpful - thanks

If you had it checked last month, change your saddle fitter! No, it shouldn't do that, make sure it is checked while you are riding it as well, too many so-called saddle fitters fit the saddle on a horse standing in a yard and never see it move, let alone ridden.

No, it absolutely should not do this and is likely to harm your horses back, as it is actually banging on the back each time it does this. It could be too wide at the front, it could be comletely wrong for your horse. Please get a different saddle fitter out a.s.a.p.
