I recently moved off my 13.2 to a 15hh & although she's only 15hh she has a very big canter. I fell off two days ago because I completely mucked up the stride & I tried jumping yesterday (only small fences) but I'd really lost my confidence & I'm sure she could sense this as she kept chipping in small strides.
I know she can do it as the fences we're doing at the moment she could do in her sleep & when I tried her we were jumping 3ft with no problem but now I'm finding it so hard & keep worrying on the approach to each fence.
Any advice to help see a stride!? Or any exercised I could do?

At fences up to 3ft then you really shouldn't be worrying too much about seeing a stride, if you have a good quality canter with impulsion (ie powerful / bouncy / engaged not fast) then you will get over the fence. When a horse has a good canter then it doesn't matter so much if you are a little off stride wise as the horse has enough power to shorten and lengthen their stride accordingly and also the power to clear the fence if they are a little far away or a little too close

The way to improve the canter is flatwork :)

You can practise this over poles on the ground, if you are nervous about jumping then get to grips with pole work first and then move on to fences. If you really feel you just have to jump then you can set up a grid out of trot poles to help you get the correct take off point.
