Background:

Have owned my mare for 2 years, she is 22 yrs old. I have had her stabled day and night, turned out day and night. and in day out night etc so routine is not changed. She is used to bandages so this has not changed, feed not changed, haylage not changed, bedding nit changed.

This morning i took her bandages off while i mucked her out, went to put pad back on before bandage and she snapped her leg up sharp. Tried again, same thing. Run my fingers down back of leg and she done it again and moved away. Same on other front but not quite as sensitive.

There is no heat, swelling or lumps/bumps and she walks an trots up sound..any ideas? :(:(

This isn't a very helpful answer but have you tried leaving the bandages off for longer than just while you muck out? She obviously wears them for a reason? Maybe once circulation gets going again they may not be so sensitive?

Perhap she is trying to advise you that she doesn't think she needs bandages.

Let the air get to her legs for a change.

If the bandages are to keep her legs warm - they may become too warm if kept on for too long and the temperature changes and then your horse has no way of regulating the heat.
