i have a 8 month old, roan, new forest filly. fully registered and dad done a bit of showing. so thought id get her out and about.

initially will just be local riding club in hand shows however would like to considor new forest show ect

i have shown before but only my 15.2 riding club horse so thats easy . . plait, trim, saddle, briddle clean tidy ect

however a forester im stuck a bit,
1 - do i trim, not trim or trim a little bit . if a little bit what bits? pull her mane?

2 - do i show her in a bitless bridle, flat white halter or a white rope halter?

3 - what should i wear, dont really want to wear jods and boots for inhand

4 - any other tips or advise would be great

:D thankssss

    Trim and pull a forester    ;) :p

Thats a good link from -Cadence- much better than any advice I could give as i'm new to this showing foresters lark myself and got most of it wrong last season :o I was just wondering how your filly was bred If you don't mind me asking. My forester is Roan to I always wonder if other Roans are related to him :D . PM me if you'd prefer.

For a yearling a white or leather slip (see which looks best with her coloring and complements her face), no bit.

When she's older and shown under saddle it's a snaffle bridle up to novice level, and a double further above that

Hi, I show a few foresters. You can lightly pull mane but don't plait. You can trim their jaw lines and lightly trim their heels. The new forest pony website is good for questions about this.

I'd show a yearling in a leather bitless bridle, the white ones are only required for the forest shows and if you're showing at local shows people are stupid enough to think white show lead means your pony is a welsh and then put you down because your pony doesn't have good enough welsh movement! It really does happen.

For yourself wear trousers and boots that you cn run in. cream/beige trousers are best unless your pony has light legs in which case wear darker trousers so the judge doesn't see a tangle of legs!

Hope this helps. Good Luck New Forests are such lovely ponies
