This is my first time on forum and not sure how it works. I have posted a message on veterinary also.

Does anybody have advice for me regarding my 5 year old fresian x who has damaged his suspensory and check ligament on the back right. He has just started 3 month box rest with in hand walking twice a day. He is due to have shock wave treatment also. He will be assessed in 3 months time and may need an operation.

I am gutted as i have owned him since he was born and have always been careful with him. He is only used for hacking and the odd fun ride. Does anybody have any good news for me or any advice.

Thanks

Three horses on my yard have had injuries to their suspensory ligaments, not too sure of the ins and outs but two have been operated on and have made/are making good recovery, both are back in work. The third has been retired but I think he has other issues as well. Good luck, wishing your horse a full and speedy recovery.

Am sure he will be fine for what you want and probably more!! My boy did both checks in front and is still hunting aged 19 yrs. My other chap did his front susp few years ago and is also still going strong at 18 yrs hunting until this year. So I wouldn't worry too much.

Thanks for your reply, you have made me feel a lot better. Just got to get through next few months:)

Unfortunately fronts are far easier to mend than hinds as the structure is less complex. The prognosis is not so good for hinds partly due to the load put on them. My old boys front tweak healed very well, the youngsters hind is much less straightforward, but still keeping fingers crossed.
