Hello there, I am in desperate need of a Thorowgood T6 Cob or T4 Cob saddle, size 17" or 17 1/2". Do you know where to get 2nd/ or 3rd hand ones?

The problem is that I have a horse on full loan, the owner doesn't give a **** and the saddle she has is completely wrong for her. So I want had a fitting etc, and we came to the conclusion the T6 or T4 is the best one for her. Obv. do I not have a lot of money (150 ono) - and after all she is not my horse.

If you know something or have some suggestions than pls let me know :)
Thanks a lot!!!

If you have her on full loan then you are responsible for making sure she is comfortable, the fact you dont own her is irrelevant. Any tack you buy her would be yours if she went back to her owner anyway.

I suggest you contact some Thorowgood stockists and ask if they have any 2nd hand stock.

I bought my T4 cob off ebay, I think I paid about £200 but it was brand new, it's worth keeping your eye out for one on there, there seem to be a fair few. Good luck.

Well I am just about to take her on full loan, and thing is why should I pay for a horse that has never seen a dentist/ vaccinations and has not even tack that suits her.

I am ok with getting the dentist & vet sorted, but than also the tack? I mean if I would have that kind of money, I probably had a horse my own. And the owner had her for nearly 3 years and its quite shocking how less they care. So I think they could contribute something towards her as well, as I do them a favour as this horse is losing value & character with each day.

But thank you for the suggestion, I will do that.

@Aoibhin hey i am in scotland!!

Yes ebay - fingers crossed, I have an eye on a saddle that could fit her! :)

Because that is what owning a horse properly is all about. i agree, the owners should have had her teeth done, etc. However you are taking the horse on so it is now your responsibility. Teeth, shoeing, vaccinations, tack are all running costs required by any horse- whether you own it or not.

If the tack isnt suitable you have 2 choices 1) ride it in unsuitable tack and make the horse uncomfortable and risk your safety (obviously a stupid thing to do) or 2) provide suitable tack.

You have to sort out each others responsibilies and have a contract accordingly. If the owner wont provide well fitting tack and you disagree that its your problem then dont take on the horse. If you cant afford to buy tack then can you afford the horse? A saddle that fits and regular checks is just as important as having teeth and vaccinations done- its all part of ownership and needs to be budgeted for accordingly.

You obviously feel that you are doing the owner a favour, so if you begrudge having to spend money on the horse for what you are getting in return then walk away and look for a horse whose owner is happy to provide everything.
