Help!!!! Tumor management

My horse has just been diagnosed with a tumor on his liver, that is stopping any goodness from his food being absorbed into his body and is effectively starving to death, im hoping for some advice on what would be the best to feed him or any supliments that could be usefull. Hes currently on a conditioning mix and a coconut mix to help put some weight on him but its not working! Please if anyone has any advice or tips please let me know

How was your horse diagnosed? Liver tumours are very rare in horses. Was a biopsy taken?

Your vet should be able to advise you on how to proceed, and if they are unable to then it might be worth asking them to consult a specialist for further advice.
 
Hun, if he's got a tumour on his liver - and I'm assuming you mean cancer - the outlook is poor to hopeless. If he is unable to absorb nutrition, he will deteriorate and deteriorate whatever you do. You can help a little by following these 3 critical feeding rules: 1 - feed a very low protein diet - what protein you do feed should be of the highest quality you can afford: 2 - feed a good quality Milk Thistle as this will help support the liver, D&H do a very good dried tub: 3 - NO OIL, EVER. Beware - most conditioning products have high levels of oil.

But even if you do all the above hun, you are only delaying the inevitable, providing it is liver cancer your ned has got. If he has an infection in his liver, or even terrible liver damage from ragwort earlier in his life, then you certainly CAN help your horse. I'm amazed your vets haven't been more helpful and talked through his prognosis/palliative care etc. Above all, you MUST stop feeding him oil and coditioning mixes. A very low protein diet + milk thistle. PM me if you need more info as my rescued mare had appalling liver damage from ragwort and I managed to pull her back from the brink.
 
my horse has also been very ill (not a tumor) but has lost a lot of weight. when he was discharged from the vet school i was told to get him rice bran as this is very high in fat 20% it alos is a low cereal base i have notice a bit of a diference in him. unfortunately the outlook seems to be quite bleak for your horse and the best feeding may not resolve your horses condition problem so sorry
