I hope thats whats going wrong with me and LAcey cos everything is falling to bits and I have a 100 mile ride starting monday -_- Today she planted herself for 20 mins cos I asked her to walk on the otherside of the track as she was insisting on walking on a really rutty part. and she wont let me catch her and stuff, its doing my head in.

Our connection just isn't 'there' anymore. I'm gonna spend loadsa time with herr over the next few days, ground work ect, anyone else have any more ideas?
 
Poor you. I have seen your posts with Lacey and FWIW I reckon you do a great job with a difficult mare.

I get like this with my old boy Monty sometimes. I know it's not much help but really try not to be frustrated. I feel like the more angry I get, the more Monty plays up.

You will get it back, horses are funny things and they like to keep you on your toes. You two have a great bond though so you will click again.
 
Thanks. I'm finding myself doing a lot of counting to 10 at the moment!

And its the silliest things, like I asked her to walk on the other side of a path because she was insisting on walking on a really rutted part, and she planted herself and wouldn't move until I got off and led her for a bit. -rolls eyes- ahhh
 
I know its not everyones cup of tea but what about doing 'join up' with her - im not a great follower of these types of things but the join up practice works wonders for the connection with mine - just now and again when i lunge after they have worked i will free school while they cool off and at the end do a bit of this and generally mess about with them and it works wonders for your 'bond' together.
 
Oh, don't despair. My boy is rock steady ID x cob and is normally the easiest to do but even we have days when we just don't see eye to eye. Its just a blip and I am sure things will come right.

You do so well with your mare, try to think of all the positives.

When my boy has planted himself and I feel like killing him I jump off, lead him past whatever it is he has taken a dislike to and get back on, end of. Rather than get completely exaspurated we end on a positive note and I do not think I have given in by getting off I just think it as being a solution to a problem. I have also found that by dealing with things like this he doesn't bother the next time.

Good luck but remember the majority of us have been there too.

I oftern find my horse misbehaves when I have something else on my mind??
Usually if I go up to the yard in a good mood she is sweet but if I go up in a bad mood then visa versa.
I know your horse is really difficult and I have looked at all the videos of you on youtube and I think you make an excellent team.
You might have just got yourself all stressed out about the 100 mile ride
