I have a grey mare I would like to take to local shows to compete in show jumping, dressage and maybe showing. I currently have the follow and would like to keep costs to minimum.
Brown hat
Black tack
Black jodhpurs boots - to buy black gaiters to go with? Funds are limited.
Would it be best to get a brown tweed ? Match my hat? What would you do and what are the dress code in these disinplines

I'm no big expert on these things but I would say it depends on whether you are going to do the showing?

At local level you can get away with much more but in general I would say show jacket with stock for dressage and sj. Tweed with shirt and tie for showing, however if you can only afford one the tweed is perfectly acceptable locally for jumping and dressage.

If you are an adult you might be better off with a black or brown jacket for all 3. If you are under 16 tweeds would be more correct.

Dressage tends to be more strict - even at local level - and a plain single colour jacket would fit better. And an Adult in tweed in an SJ ring will look like they've got lost from working hunter!

Again if you are under 16 you can get away with Johdpur clips - elasticated straps which go under your boot and cost about £2 from tack shops. If you are over 16 then synthtetic chaps will be a lot cheaper than leather gaiters and perfectly acceptable. (And if you are under 16 for that matter - just more expensive than Joddy clips!)

Reagrdless a shirt and tie is correct for under the jacket.

It might be worth going along to a couple of local shows on foot and having a look at what people are wearing. Some are more relaxed than others!
