I was always under the impression the horse I rode was about 14.2hh but apparently shes 15.2!!
She really doesn't look it but shes wider than she is tall haha, which now makes me question what height shall I be looking for when looking for a horse to buy.

I'm after an arab and I'm 5'7 I'm currently 10 stone - Yes I know I'm a bit on the heavy side - I've put on stone of weight lately and currently trying to get back down to 9ish.

Would 14.2 be too small for me? I have feeling now specially on an arab I'd look ridiculous - what do you think?

firstly 10st for a 5'7" woman is NOT heavy! most horses would carry you easily, but since arab are so slight i would go for 15.1 ++ to take up your leg. it will be more about how tall you look on them than the weight carrying.

also in my sig i am riding a 13.2 pony (chestnut) and a 16.2 (bay) and i am 5'7"

Arabs can carry a bit more weight than other horses of the same size because of their bone density, but at 10 stone I don't think you would be too heavy for a 15.2 arab.

As for height, well if you're happy on your current horse that's all that matters. My neighbour who is about 5' 9" rides a 14.2 Connemara and doesn't look silly. Really, it's not about height but about how comfortable you feel on a horse. I was offered a 16.3 hh ex racer on loan and nearly turned it down because I thought he was too big (I'm 5' 3" and 8.5 stone) but he was such a lovely safe comfy ride I gave in. I also rode a 14.2 tb/welsh for 10 years and now have a 15.2. tb!

Holy moly. 10 stone for any arab is nothing. They are designed to carry fully grown men!

So basically in terms of weight carrying you are absolutely fine. It is just what height you feel comfortable on. The arab I know is quite a chunky chap ( old crabbet lines) and took up a lot of leg when ridden but more modern ones are slighter so it would depend on what you got a bit as to what height.

At 5'7, a taller arab will suit you fine. As others have said your weight isn't a problem at all, but you may find that you are more comfortable on a taller horse because of your height. Keep an eye on the arabianlines 'sales' section. :D ;)

Yeah I heard they can carry more than they look.
But yeah I was thinking because they're so delicate looking I'll stick out like a sore thumb on something smaller.
I guess 15h+ probably isn't as big as I previously thought and tbh probably what I usually tend to ride, I have no grasp of height tho haha - I think Id feel a little uncomfortable on something smaller, ahh hmhm at least arabians are bred alot more taller now days.
Oh and don't worry I'm constantly on the arabian line sales page! probably more than whats healthy haha :D
