We recently bought my husband a 5 yo. 17.2 hh stallion from abroad (we do not live in the UK by the way). He is a very nice young horse who is incredibly willing to please. As he was to be imported, we had to wait for about one month for him to arrive (due to legal proceedings) and he didn't work during this time. Then, he had a terrible journey and got very stiff in his neck (he sweated a lot on the road and the windows were open
). He could hardly move in his stable. So we gave him another break and started slowly after about a month. As my husband is a riding instructor and has to ride 10+ horses every day, mostly I ride him. I do not jump but my husband and some friends of ours jumped with him (once a week or so). He is a little bit unbalanced in canter (normal I think considering his age) but has no problems whatsoever in approaching and jumping a fence. He has loads of power and makes a good shape over the fence. He will jump anything and everything. But the issue is that he tends to land very heavily on his forehead after a jump and because of this, I am worried. I believe that he can damage his forelegs if he continues to jump like this. He just lacks a little bit of impulsion, we are working on it. But even if we really get him going to a fence, he lands the same.
So, is there anything that we can do to improve this? Or is this just his style and are we stuck with this for the rest of his life?
Thank you in advance.
