Help, what would be best? might be bit long

Will try to be brief.

Merlin is 2yo Welsh D Colt who i have been handling with a friend since the day he was born

Basically Merlin is not actually mine, he belongs to a friend.

I am now thinking about buying him.

BUT

He went to be castrated in March (i think) time, they could not find his balls, apparently the vets said that he does not need an operation and that if they are inside him they will just shrivel up and not to worry.

But i've been try to read a bit about it online and find things that scare me saying that if they are not removed they could present cancer and tumour problems in the future.

So am not sure what to do now?

Would he need to have an operation for it ? Or not ?

If he did i don't think insurance would cover it (not that he's insured, but if i were to buy him i would insure him) as its a known condition as it were.

Also, who should pay for it if he does need it?

I think that if its undescended testicles, so they are there, just inside, id get a specialists opinion on the whole situation, as it wouldnt suprise me if there was a high risk of infection or reaction leading to cancer later on in life as a result. (Not saying there will be just saying it wouldnt be suprising!)

so id ask a specialist and they will prob be bale to give you guidance on all your questions!

The vet said the same thing about my mother's boxer dog - he only had one descended, the other was up near his heart (!) - he had an op to remove it as the vet said if left, it could become cancerous as the internal body temperature was too warm - they naturally hang outside and are designed to be much cooler..... not sure of the science on that but definitely a veterinary opinion!

If you leave them on/in - surely they will produce testosterone and then you'll have a pony with stallion-like tendencies as he gets older?
