I have found William a loan home but the girl loaning him is only 12 so obviously doesnt have the same strength i do so when he doesnt want to go somewhere he trys to turn round with her so i want a stronger bit which will help improve steering and make him less likely to fight against what hes being asked. Hes in a straight bar snaffle at the moment, i want something a bit better on breaks too. Any suggestions? Ive got him a flash bridle coming so hopefully that will make a possitive difference as he opens his mouth when he naps. Will a martingale help in any way?

I'd go for either a vulcanite pelham with a loose chain, or possibly a dutch gag. Pelhams have more poll action; the gag is better, I've always found, if its just extra brakes you're after!

ETS just seen the fact you want him in a flash - in this case, i'd definitely go for the dutch gag! had a pony with the same issues, and it worked wonders for her. You could have it on the snaffle ring on a good day, than change if you needed. Think I only used the bottom ring for hunting!

its more the steering thats the problem but i want a bit more breaks as the girl is obviously not as strong as me so would need something a bit stronger to take the same effect

Yes gag's a good idea if he doesn't throw his head up, as the gag can lift the head.

Before going for a pelham type, I'd be careful she is good with her hands.

With the gag you'd get brakes and also the sides on it to help with steering.

the pony is very quiet and the girl is fine, she just hasnt got the strength that an adult has but when her muscles are developed and she knows him better she will be fine and he can go back to how hes normally bitted.
