I have a horse who since having his wolf teeth out and his tushes have come through no longer seems happy with a bit in his mouth. He has had X-rays and all his mouth and teeth look good. No abscesses or bits of tooth left in the gum. He tends to brace his lower jaw and then goes behind the leg and also sticks his tongue out at times. I have tried a few different bits but would love to hear from anyone who has had a similar problem or does anyone know of a bitting expert they can recommend? He is very sound and his back is good and his saddle fits.

Look at the distance between his bars and the thickness of his tongue.
Young horses are generally started in thicker bits but with some that have little space between the bars or have a thicker tongue find these uncomfortable.

Have you tried the Myler bits? They are generally very good for fussy horses because they are better shaped than a lot of the usual bits and are thinner than most.

Thank you for advise. I know he has a large tongue. He was going beautifully in quite a thick lozenge bit before teething but can't cope now. I'll have a look at the mylers.
