Hi I’m totally new to anything affiliated when it comes to showjumping, I wondered if there were any experts who can point me in the right direction?

My 10yr old has become obsessed with showjumping, she’s been doing quite well with her pony and has recently been winning their 60 and 70cm classes. Her pony is pretty speedy! I just don’t know where to start, pony is 14hh. She over jumps everything by a mile but I feel 80cm is probably her comfort level…she has hock arthritis and we are trying to keep her fit and well with that, she’s had Arthramid injections so I am aware that we need to be careful and not do too much with her! She’s fit and well and flying at the moment. We only jump a maximum of twice a week really under vet advice.

Can anyone help with what sort of classes she could do? I’ve looked at the BS website but it’s just so complicated and confusing!!!!

Thanks

Hi there, I see no one has come forward to help you.
My grandchildren are 12 and 14 and have been jumping affiliated for a couple of seasons. I will ask my daughter if she can point you in the right direction. She used to come on here but never has time these days!

Up until the start of this year when she outgrew her 13hh pony my daughter was doing the 60/70cm BS club classes. They are from 60cm -1m, split junior and senior. Placings get points which count towards a regional league and the top qualifiers from that are eligible for the national champs. There's no height or age restrictions so are a really good starting point.

BS junior classes are different and are based on pony height/age i.e. my 12 year old daughter on a 14.2 will be competing against those up to age 16 but the 128/138 height classes such as Stepping Stones etc have lower age limits - I'm not sure what as we missed those out as they are very competitive and our old pony wasn't at that level! But if your pony is 14hh then it would be the pony novice which is 80cm wold be the lowest height they could do.

My daughter says there are loads of options. Your daughter could jump in Club Classes which are open to any age child with any size of pony at 60/70 then there is British Novice which is 80.
Club classes membership is cheaper but you don’t get prize money
There are 10 and under classes and Stepping Stones but your pony may be too big for those.

Bobthecob, apparently there is also Academy and JustSchools but no info on that.
Does your daughter belong to the Pony Club? She sounds perfect for teams at PC70 level.
