Hi it has been suggested to me that I put studs on my horse for doing a few competitions that I have coming up,

Spoke to my farrier today and he is happy to do this for me (my horse has had hem before with previous owner)

but now I cant decide what type to get, I have been looking at the supa studs and these seem pretty good and have given good advice so I know which ones to use and when

so was wondering

1) whether there is a particular one that is the most popular?

or should I

2) just buy normal ones in a box with a selection of different types?

and

3) are the Supa suds alo easier to use thann normal or no real difference?

all help greatly appreciated

I switched to SupaStuds after a few years of 'normal' studs and I have to say I have found them much easier to use. However I was having a few problems with my studholes at the start of the season, so I posted on here and somebody replied saying my problems could be down to using SupaStuds as they tend to make the studhole slightly oval.

I spoke to my farrier about this & he didn't share the same opinion so I have continued using them, and now I know how to care for my studholes, I am using them with great success. I absolutely love them and seem to have a lot less trouble than a friend I travel with who doesn't use them.

After advice on here I always pick out my studholes the night before I need them, and fill them with the cotton wool type plug covered in vaseline. This seems to work really well & they just screw straight in. Inbetween uses I don't do anything to the holes at all.

With regards to what to buy it really depends what you are doing and what ground you will be on, I have one stud in each foot ( that's down to you & your farriers preference ) and I buy 5 of each stud in case I lose one when rushing to stud up. I found when I bought one of the boxes with everything in I hardly used some of the items in there so I now just buy what SupaStuds I need.

I mainly use their medium ones, sometimes with the little dressage ones in the front depending on the ground. I also have the slightly larger ones in case of deep ground but don't use these much at all.
