Hello All
My little paint horse has never been shod but now i am riding him properly he has gone very foot sore on the fronts.
I corrected his diet and farriery when i bought him 18months ago as he came with apaling feet which had been poorly trimed and lord knows what he was fed the crappy feet have grown out they have been nicely balanced and trimed and he went from hoping lame in hand on the road to being able to be trotted under saddle the splitting crackng and stinkyness has gone.
Feed is unmollased alfalfa chop with micronised linseed and pro balance no sugar no s***t. feet are cleaned regularly and i use kevin bacon grease to keep thrush at pay and hooves moisturised.
but at the end of the day he has tiny pony feet there white and his feet bruise easily and we are now hackign further and hitting a lot of gravely stoney tracks which are hurting him.
So tried cavallo simples they span round tried a smaller size no better
Looking at easy boot gloves wide next but before i waste anymore pennies please could you give me your opinion on what is best for his hoof measurements as they dont seem to perfectly fit to any ones size guides
After a fresh trim he is 115mm long and 121mm wide for a 15'1 horse he does have dainty little pony toes! one of his fores doesnt grow fround either it grows a little squarish due to a slight medial twist on the front cannon i leave it liek this as its his natural balance to compensate the cannon twist and if its trimed neat and round he goes lame becuase the foot isn't balanced.
Thank you for your advise in advance The Hawk and Mr Tea
