[/IMG]I've been around horses for more than forty years and I've never seen this before, can anyone identify them?
They are in a crescent shaped series of lumps which appeared about three weeks ago. I thought at first he'd been bitten by another horse, as it is relatively teeth imprint shape. It's on his right hand side just behind his shoulder. He isn't ridden so it can't be saddle or girth rub. He began biting it as it seems to be very itchy and when I looked again, these tops had come off and left these small circular open wounds. We have got ring worm on the yard and he has been exposed but he has been infected many years ago so I didn't think he would be affected but as you can see the hair hasn't come off these. We have also had two ponies with evidence of bot flies emerging but those didn't look anything like these lumps. I also had another pony when I was a girl many years ago which did get a bot fly lump under his saddle but that was much bigger than this and there was only one scab. He hadn't been wormed when he should have but since I've had this horse, I have always wormed for bots in winter and definitely did last winter.
I'd appreciate any thoughts.

Are they lumpy as well? Could it be warble fly larvae? Bot flys don't live in the skin surface.

As you have ringworm on the yard I'd be inclined to think that it may be early ringworm. Wash him thoroughly in Nizerol. Dilute in hand hot water and lather up well working well into the coat - either wash whole horse or at least wash the damaged area and also about 6" around the ouotside too.

Fungal infections are very itchy.
