Help with interval training please

I think you normaly start with 1 minuet canter and 5 min walk and as your horse recovers quicker you make the canter longer and the walking shorter.
But i used to do it on the Lunge with Lucy to get her fit for endurance. We used to do canter and trot. In the end she was doing 5 min canter, 2 min trot, 5 min canter, 2 min trot then repeat on the other rein.
Hope this is of some help and i stand to be corrected if i'm wrong but this is how i've always done it. :o

LOL I think it's just me who does it on the lunge. Lucy can be sooooo lazy when she can't be arsed it's easyer to chase her round on the lunge than ride her. :p ;) :D Good luck tom.

Doing it on the lunge is actually rather clever! :p We have no where to do interval training other than the arena otherwise...... but I'd be worried about extra strain on the horses legs??

Sorry to change topic, just curious! :)

Lucy always coped well. I don't think it put to much strain on her legs and we used to do it atleast several times a week. :)

Fair enough :) Trying to think of ways to improve Dan's fitness but we only have roads so can do lots of steady work and schooling easily.....although we both hate hacking anyway! :/
