I would generally go over horse care topics, stable and pasture management, worming, emergancy situations etc and think about what your job will involve and the type of yard. ie hunter yard different management to eventers, liveries etc. What staff will you be in charge of? Do you assign them to particular horses or team working ie all muck out, feed etc then exercise. They will probably ask about organisational skills such as ensuring all are up-to date with jabs, farrier visits etc. We had a blackboard at one yard and wrote down lists for farrier, vet, injuries medication etc.

Sorry it's a bit waffly but hopefully is of some use!!

Maybe something about people management, and conflict resolution? Try to think up specific scenarios, for example, liveries arguing about using the school, or rumormongering, or something.

Remeber not to give one word answers. As an interviewer nothing is worse than a candidate that won't talk to you.

They are looking to see if your personality etc. is a good fit for the yard as well as your knowledge, be yourself and try to be relaxed, friendly and conversant.

Second the people skills side of things - critical skill for a YM to have - especially conflict management!!!!

Also make sure you are up to date with recent legislation with passports, risk assessments, fire safety, dreaded health and safety, business skills like budgeting, planning and time management.

Smile, make eye contact, don't waffle or lie, don't exaggerate your skills, think of lots of questions for them, make sure the job is right for you.
